"Life Under the Sea", Mixed Media and Cyanotype: Johnson Public Library
(March 8 - April 29, 2017) Title: "Life Under the Sea", Mixed Media and Cyanotype Artist: Poramit Thantapalit This exhibition is the collection of Poramit Thantapalit’s artwork that he has been created in the past five years. He has developed his own process combining recycled materials and cyanotype. He has made his artwork out what most people would consider “trash.” such as plastic bottles, cardboard, papers, wood, rubbers, wires, electric cords, computer parts and used clothing. This is a way to reuse, repurpose and recycle to reduce the cost of materials and show that these materials can create a new, beautiful work. He also created cyanotype photogram from the recycled materials and his sculptures. The concept is to use his recycled sculpture and cyanotype photogram as departure point to create a new or combined artwork in a different format or medium. He has created a unique installation for this exhibition. They are located inside the three window cases. The installations show how he combines recycled sculpture and cyanotype together. The theme of this installation is “Life Under The Sea.” The sculptures are made of recycled material such as coral flowers and sea urchins that are made of electric cord and cable ties. A green coral reef made of 7-Up plastic bottles and floating bubble balloons made of recycled paper mache. The cyanotype in the backgrounds are printed from the sculptures. They represent the reflection of the sculptures in the sea water. Location: Johnson Public Library, 274 Main Street Hackensack, NJ 07601. Tel.
